လေ့လာမိသောအင်္ဂလိပ်သဒ္ဒါအပိုင်းအစများ (၂၉) Other (s) and Another When ‘other’ is used before a plural noun, it does not have –s. အများကိန်းနာမ်ရဲ့ရှေ့မှာ ‘other’ ကို သုံးရင် other မှာ ‘s’ မထည့်ရပါဘူး။ When ‘other’ is used without a noun, it has –s in the plural. ‘other’ ကို noun မပါဘဲသုံးတဲ့အခါ အများကိန်းနာမ်အဖြစ် ‘s’ ထည့်ပြီး သုံးရပါတယ်။   Tell the other people. Tell the others. Can you show me some other shoes? Can you show me some others? We use ‘another (one word)’ to mean ‘one more’. နောက်ထပ်တစ်ခု၊ နောက်ထပ်တစ်ယောက်ဆိုတဲ့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်နဲ့ သုံးရင် another ကို သုံးရပါတယ်။ But with uncountables and plurals, we do not generally use ‘other’ to mean ‘more’. ဒါပေမဲ့ နောက်ထပ်ဆိုတဲ့အဓိပ္ပါယ်အတွက် “ရေတွက်လို့မရတဲ့နာမ်တွေနဲ့ အများကိန်းနာမ်တွေကို” other နဲ့ တွဲမသုံးရပါ။ Have another potato. လေ့လာမိသောအင်္ဂလိပ်သဒ္ဒါအပိုင်းအစများ (၂၇) Gerund vs Infinitive after 'forget, remember, stop, regret'  forget, remember, stop, regret စတဲ့ verb တွေရဲ့နောက်မှာ gerund (-ing form) လည်း သုံးနိုင်သလို to infinitive လည်း သုံးလို့ရပါတယ်၊ 📝ဘာကွဲသလဲဆိုရင် forget, remember, stop, regret ရဲ့နောက်မှာ gerund လိုက်ရင် သူက လုပ်ပြီး သား (သို့) ဖြစ်ပြီးသား ကိစ္စတွေရဲ့နောက်မှာ မေ့ခြင်း၊ သတိရခြင်း/ ရပ်နားလိုက်ခြင်း/ နောင်တရခြင်း တွေ ဖြစ်တာဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဥပမာ- I forget visiting Pyin Oo Lwin as a child. ကလေးတုန်းက ပြင်ဦးလွင်အလည်သွားတာကို ငါ့မေ့နေတာ၊ * အရင်တုန်းက သွားခဲ့ပြီးသား ခရီးကို မေ့နေတာပါ I always remember studying in Japan. ငါ ဂျပန်မှာ ပညာသင်ခဲ့တာကို အမြဲသတိရတယ်၊ I regret telling him my secret; he has told everyone. ငါ သူ့ကို ငါရဲ့လျှို့ဝှက်ချက်ပြောလိုက်မိတာကို နောင်တ ရတယ်၊ သူက လူတိုင်းကို ပြောပလိုက်ပြီလေ။ We stop working because we are really tired. ငါတို့ တကယ်ကို ပင်ပန်းလို့ အလုပ်လုပ်တာ ရပ်လိုက် ကြတယ်၊ *ပြောတဲ့အချိန် အလုပ်လုပ်တာ ရပ်ပြီးပြီ။ 📝 forget, remember, stop, regret တို့ရဲ့ နောက်မှာ...

We can talk about the future by saying that something is to happen. ‘something is to happen’ ဆိုတဲ့ပုံစံနဲ့ အနာဂတ်ကာလကို ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုနိုင်တယ်။ We often use this structure to talk about ‘official plans’ and ‘fixed personal arrangements’. ဒီပုံစံကို ‘တရားဝင်သတ်မှတ်ထားတဲ့ အစီအစဉ်တွေနဲ့ ကိုယ်ပိုင်စီစဉ်ထားတဲ့အရာတွေကို’ ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုရာမှာ သုံးပါတယ်။ The President is to visit to Mandalay in December. ဒီဇင်ဘာလမှာ သမ္မတကြီး မန္တလေးကို လာလည်ဖို့ ရှိတယ်။ (တရားဝင် စီစဉ်ထားတာ) We are to get a wage rise. ငါတို့ လုပ်ခလစာ တိုးရတော့မယ်။ ‘You are (not) to’ can be used (for example by parents) to give orders. အမိန့်ပေးဖို့ ဥပမာ - မိဘကသားသမီးကို ပြောတဲ့အခါမျိုးမှာ ‘ဒါလုပ်ရမယ်၊ မလုပ်ရဘူး’ ဆိုတာကို ‘You are to , You are not to’ နဲ့ ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုနိုင်တယ်။ You are to do your homework before you watch TV. တီဗွီမကြည့်ခင် မင်း အိမ်စာအရင်လုပ်ရမယ်။ She can go out, but she is not to be back late. သူ(မ) အပြင်ထွက်လို...
