ကျွန်တော် ကျောင်းသားဘဝ အင်္ဂလိပ်စကားပြောတဲ့ အတွေ့အကြုံနည်းစဉ်တုန်းက တစ်ယောက်ယောက်က ကိုယ့်ကို 'You never know.' ဆိုတဲ့ ဝါကျမျိုးပြောတာ ကြားလိုက်ရရင် စိတ်ထဲ ကသိကအောက်ဖြစ်တတ်တယ်။ 'You' ဆိုတာ ကိုယ့်ကို တိုက်ရိုက်ပြောတယ်ပဲ ထင်ခဲ့တာကိုး။ 'You never know' ဆိုတဲ့ စကားရဲ့ အထာကို မနပ်သေးတာကြောင့်လည်း ဖြစ်မယ်။

'You never know' ဆိုတာ informal စကားပြောမှာပဲ သုံးတဲ့ပုံစံ။ မင်း ဘယ်တော့မှ မသိဘူး လို့အပြစ်တင်လိုက်တာ မဟုတ်။ 'ပြောလို့မရဘူးကွ၊ ဖြစ်ကောင်းဖြစ်လာနိုင်တယ်၊ ဖြစ်နိုင်ချေတော့နည်းသော်လည်း' စသည့်အဓိပ္ပါယ်ပါ။

ပြောလို့မရဘူးနော်၊ သူ စိတ်ပြောင်းရင် ပြောင်းမှာ။



နောက်အတွေ့အကြုံလေးတစ်ခုက လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့ ၂၅နှစ်ကျော်၊ ကျွန်တော် ဘန်ကောက်ရှိ Assumption University မှာ စလုပ်ခါစက။ Raj Kumar လို့အမည်ရတဲ့ India နိုင်ငံသား ဆရာကြီးတစ်ဦးနဲ့ မိတ်ဆွေဖြစ်ကြ၊ ကော်ဖီဆိုင်ထိုင် စကားတွေပြောခဲ့ကြစဉ်က။ သူက ရုတ်တရက်ကြီး "You wouldn't say boo to a goose.' ဆိုတဲ့ သူ့ခေတ်က Indiansတွေရဲ့ထုံးစံအတိုင်း cliche, archaic expression ရှေးကျကျ အသုံးကြီးနဲ့ ကျွန်တော့်ကို ပြောပါလေရော။ ကိုယ်ကလည်း သဘောမကျလို့ What do you mean by 'you'? လို့ပြန်ပြောမိတာ သတိရပါတယ်။ သူက No, I mean it as a metaphorical you. လို့ပြန်ရှင်းပြခဲ့တာလည်း ခုထိမမေ့သေးပါဘူး။



ဆိုတော့ကာ ဒီ ကိုယ့်ရဲ့အတွေ့အကြုံလေးပေါ်မူတည်ပြီး အင်္ဂလိပ်စာလေ့လာနေကြတဲ့ လူငယ်တွေကို ပြောပြချင်တာက Speaking မှာ You လို့ကြားလိုက်တိုင်း ဒါတော့ ငါ့ကိုတည့်တည့်ကြီး ဆော်နေပြီဟ လို့ မယူဆမိကြဖို့ပါ။ You ကို metaphor, as a figure of speech လိုသုံးတတ်တာ၊ ဥပစာ အနေနဲ့ သုံးတတ်တာကို သတိပြုမိစေချင်ပါတယ်။ ဒါ့ကြောင့် metaphorical you ဟာ လူတွေအားလုံးကို ယေဘူယျညွှန်းဆိုတာဖြစ်လို့ I, we, you, they, anyone, people in general ကိုဆိုလိုတာဖြစ်တယ်ဆိုတာကို သိထားစေချင်တာပါ။

ဒီလိုလေး ထပ်မှတ်ရအောင် ......

Sometimes, 'you' does not mean 'you'. 'You' could be 'anyone'.

အဲဒီလို you ကို Grammar မှာ 'generic-you' လို့လည်းခေါ်ပါတယ်။ negative experience မကောင်းတဲ့၊ မနှစ်မြို့စရာအတွေ့အကြုံကို ပြောချင်ရင် အဲဒီလို You နဲ့ ဝါကျစတတ်ကြတယ်။ (ဒီ post အဆုံးမှာပေးထားတဲ့ စကားပုံတွေရဲ့ sense အဓိပ္ပါယ်ကို ကြည့်ပါ။)



တလက်စတည်း စကားပြောမှာ ဝါကျအစမှာထားသုံးတတ်တဲ့ Metaphorically speaking, ဆိုတဲ့ အသုံးကိုလည်းမှတ်ပါ။ တကယ်တော့ဘယ်ဟုတ်မလဲ (literal meaning မဟုတ်ဘူး) ဥပစာ တင်စားပြီး ပြောတာပါ (used as a figure of speech, used as a metaphor) လို့ဆိုချင်ရင် သုံးတဲ့အသုံးပါ။ ဥပမာဝါကျလေး ၂ ကြောင်းကြည့်ပါ။



Metaphorically speaking, you almost gave me heart attack.

စကားအဖြစ်/တင်စားပြီးပြောတာ၊ မင်းလုပ်တာ ငါ နှလုံးရပ်တော့မလို့။



Figuratively speaking, she has a heart of stone.

တင်စားပြောရရင် သူ့အသည်းက ကျောက်ခဲလိုမာကြောတယ်ဟ။



ကဲ.... ဒီလောက်ဆိုရင် metaphor နဲ့ metaphorical you ကို သဘောပေါက်ပြီပေါ့နော်။ အခုဆက်ပြီး အောက်မှာပေးထားတဲ့ Speaking မှာ အသုံးများတဲ့ စကားပုံတချို့ကို ဆက်ဖတ်ကြည့်ကြစို့။ မှတ်ထားစေချင်တာက You လို့ စပြောထားပေမယ့် ကိုယ့်ကိုတည့်တည့်ကြီးရည်ရွယ်တာ မဟုတ်နိုင်၊ metaphorical you ဖြစ်လို့ people in general လူအားလုံးကို ညွှန်းတယ်ဆိုတာလေးပါပဲ။ Proverb လေးတွေ ဆက်ဖတ်ကြည့်ပါ။ မြန်မာလို ဘာသာပြန်ရာမှာ You ကို 'သင်' လို့ တမင်ထည့်မပြန်ထားဘူး။ အားလုံးကို ညွှန်းတာမို့ you ကို ဖျောက်ပြီးပြန်လိုက်တယ်။ အဓိပ္ပါယ်ကိုလည်း လိုရင်းပေါ်လွင်အောင်ပဲ ပြန်ပြထားပါတယ်။

မြင်းကို ရေရှိရာ ခေါ်သွားလို့ရပေမယ့် ရေတော့ အတင်းသောက်ခိုင်းလို့မရ။



2. You can’t get blood out of a stone.

ကျောက်တုံးမှ သွေးထွက်အောင် လုပ်လို့မရ။



3. You can’t make a silk purse from a sow’s ear.

ဝက်နားရွက်မှ ပိုးပိုက်ဆံအိတ်ချုပ်၍မရ။

ကြက်ဥမခွဲဘဲနှင့် ကြက်ဥမွှေကြော် ကြော်လို့မရ။



5. You can’t please everyone.

အားလုံးကို ကျေနပ်အောင်လုပ်ပေးလို့မရ။

ပိုက်ဆံ ကြွယ်ဝမှုဆိုတာ သေရင် ယူသွားလို့မရ။

ခွေးကြီးမှ လက်ပေးသင်လို့မရ။

လူတွေကို အပေါ်ယံကြည့်ပြီး ဆုံးဖြတ်၍မရ။

ငါလိုနေတဲ့အခါ မင်းကူညီရင် မင်းလိုတဲ့အခါလည်း ငါ ပြန်ကူညီမှာ။



17. You cannot make a crab walk straight.

ဂဏန်းကို တည့်တည့်လျှောက်ခိုင်းလို့ ဘယ်ရပါ့မလဲ။



18. You cannot burn the candle at both ends.

နေ့မအိပ် ညမအိပ် အလုပ်လုပ်လို့ ဘယ်ဖြစ်မလဲ။



ဒီလိုမျိုး Speaking မှာ အသုံးများတဲ့ You နဲ့စတဲ့ စကားပုံလေးတွေ အများကြီးရှိပါတယ်။ စိတ်ဝင်စားတဲ့သူ ထပ်ပြီး search လုပ်ကြ၊ research လုပ်ကြပေါ့။ Metaphorical you ဆိုတာလေးကို သိထားအောင် ရေးပေးလိုက်တာပါ။
