prefer vs I'd prefer vs I'd rather
A. `prefer to (do) or `prefer +ing ´ is used to say what you prefer in general.
ကိုယ်ပိုကြိုက်သည့်အရာကို ယေဘုယျအားဖြင့် ပြောဆိုဖော်ပြရာတွင် သုံးသည်။
I prefer coffee to tea.
ကျွန်တော် ကော်ဖီကို လက်ဖက်ရည်ထက်ပိုကြိုက်တယ်။
I prefer reading a book to going to the cinema.
ရုပ်ရှင်ရုံသွားတာထက် စာအုပ်ဖတ်နေရတာကို ပိုကြိုက်တယ်။
I prefer to read a book than go to the cinema.
ရုပ်ရှင်ရုံသွားတာထက် စာအုပ်ဖတ်နေရတာကို ပိုကြိုက်တယ်။
B. would prefer (I'd prefer) is used to say what you want in a specific situation.
အခြေအနေတစ်ခုတွင် ကိုယ်ပိုနှစ်သက်သည့်အရာ၊ ပိုလုပ်ချင်သည့်အရာကို ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုဖို့ would prefer (I'd prefer) ကို သုံးသည်။
In the restaurant (စားသောက်ဆိုင်တွင်)
`Would you prefer tea or coffee?´
လက်ဖက်ရည်လား၊ ကော်ဖီလားခင်ဗျာ။
`Coffee, please.´
ကော်ဖီပေးပါ။
✖️ would prefer + ing မသုံးရပါ။
`Shall we go by train?´
ရထားနဲ့သွားကြမလား။
`I'd prefer to drive´.
ကားမောင်းသွားချင်တာ။
I'd prefer to stay at home tonight rather than go to the cinema.
ရုပ်ရှင်သွားကြည့်တာထက် ဒီည အိမ်မှာပဲ ပိုနေချင်တယ်။
C. would rather (I'd rather....)
would rather (do) = would prefer (to do)
👀 would rather ရဲ့နောက်မှာက infinitive without to ကိုသုံးရတယ်နော်။
`Shall we go by train?´
ရထားနဲ့သွားကြမလား။
`I'd prefer to drive´.
ကားမောင်းသွားချင်တာ။
`I'd rather drive´.
ကားမောင်းသွားချင်တာ။
`Would you rather have tea or coffee?´
လက်ဖက်ရည်လား၊ ကော်ဖီလားခင်ဗျာ။
`Coffee, please´.
ကော်ဖီပေးပါ။
သူ့ကို Negative ပုံစံသုံးမယ်ဆို `I'd rather not (do something)´ လို့ သုံးရတယ်။
I'm tired. I'd rather not go out this evening, if you don't mind.
ငါ ပင်ပန်းနေတာ၊ မင်းစိတ်မရှိရင် ဒီညနေ ငါ အပြင်မထွက်ပဲ နေချင်တာ။
နောက်မှာ than နဲ့လည်း သုံးနိုင်တယ်။
I'd rather stay at home tonight than go to the cinema.
ရုပ်ရှင်သွားကြည့်တာထက် ဒီည အိမ်မှာပဲ ပိုနေချင်တယ်။
D. I'd rather you did something
တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်ကို ကိုယ်က တစ်ခုခုကိုပိုပြီးရွေးစေချင်တယ်၊ ပိုလုပ်စေချင်တယ်ဆိုရင် I'd rather you did something ပုံစံနဲ့ ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုနိုင်တယ်။
(✖️ I'd rather you do မဟုတ်ပါ)
`Shall I stay here?´
ငါ ဒီမှာနေရမှာလား။
`I'd rather you came with us´.
မင်းကို တို့နဲ့လိုက်လာစေချင်တာ။ (✖️ I'd rather you come with us.)
`I'll repair your bike tomorrow, OK?´
မင်းရဲ့ စက်ဘီးကို မနက်ဖြန်ကျ ပြင်ပေးမယ်၊ အဆင်ပြေလား။
`I'd rather you did it today.´
မင်းကို ဒီနေ့ပြင်ပေးစေချင်တာ။ (✖️ I'd rather you do it today.)
Shall I tell them or would you rather they didn't know?
ငါသူတို့ကို ပြောပြလိုက်ရမလား ဒါမှမဟုတ် မင်း သူတို့ကို မပြောစေချင်ဘူးလား။
👀ယှဉ်ကြည့်ရအောင်။
I'd rather make dinner now.
ငါအခုကို ညစာချက်လိုက်ချင်တာ။
I'd rather you made dinner now.
ငါ မင်းကို အခုကို ညစာချက်လိုက်စေချင်တာ။ (✖️ I'd rather you make dinner now.)
တစ်ခုခုကိုမလုပ်ဘဲ နေစေချင်တာကို ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုဖို့
`Shall I tell her what happened?´
ဖြစ်ခဲ့တာတွေကို သူ(မ)ကို ပြောပြလိုက်ရမလား။
`I'rather you didn't.´
မပြောစေချင်ဘူးကွာ။
(OR)
I'd prefer you not to do.
မပြောစေချင်ဘူး။
