Must vs Mustn’t vs Needn’t

You must do something = it is necessary that you do it.

‘တစ်ခုခုကိုလုပ်ရမယ်၊ လုပ်ဖို့လိုတယ်ဆိုရင်’ you must do something ကိုသုံးပြီး ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုနိုင်တယ်။

Don’t tell anybody what I said. You must keep it a secret.

ငါပြောတာကို ဘယ်သူ့မှ မပြောနဲ့နော်၊ မင်း အဲ့တာကို လျှို့ဝှက်ထားရမယ်။

We haven’t got much time. We must hurry.

ငါတို့ အချိန်အများကြီး မရဘူး၊ မြန်မြန်လုပ်ရမယ်။

You mustn’t do something = it is necessary that you do not do it. (so don’t do it.)

‘တစ်ခုခုကို မင်းမလုပ်ဖို့လိုတယ်၊ မလုပ်ရဘူးဆိုရင်’ you mustn’t do something လို့ ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုနိုင်တယ်။

You must keep it a secret. You mustn’t tell anybody else.

ငါတို့ အဲ့ကိစ္စကို လျှို့ဝှက်ထားရမယ်၊ တခြားဘယ်သူ့ကိုမှ မပြောဖို့လိုတယ်၊ မပြောရဘူး။

We must be very quiet. We mustn’t make any noise.

ငါတို့ တိတ်တိတ်လေး နေရမယ်၊ လုံးဝဆူလို့မရဘူး။

You needn’t do something = you don’t need to do it (but you can if you like)

‘တစ်ခုခုကို လုပ်ဖို့တော့မလိုဘူး၊ ဒါပေမယ့် လုပ်ချင်ရင်၊ ဆန္ဒရှိရင်တော့ လုပ်နိုင်တယ်ဆိုရင်’ you needn’t do something ကို သုံးပြီး ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုနိုင်တယ်။

You can come with me if you like, but you needn’t come if you don’t  want to.

မင်းသွားချင်ရင် ငါနဲ့အတူသွားလို့ရတယ်၊ ဒါပေမယ့် မသွားချင်ရင် သွားဖို့မလိုဘူးရတယ်။

We’ve got plenty of time. We needn’t hurry.

ငါတို့ အချိန်အများကြီးရတယ်၊ မြန်မြန်လုပ်ဖို့မလိုဘူး။

mustn’t နဲ့ needn’t ကို ပြန်ယှဉ်ကြည့်ရအောင်။

You mustn’t go to work today.

မင်းဒီနေ့အလုပ်မသွားရဘူး။ (လုံးဝမသွားရ)

You needn’t go to work today.

မင်း ဒီနေ့ အလုပ်သွားဖို့မလိုဘူး။ (သွားချင်ရင်တော့လည်း သွား၊ သွားလို့ရတယ်)

Instead of ‘needn’t’, you can use ‘don’t/ doesn’t need to’.

needn’t အစား သူ့နေရာမှာ don’t/ doesn’t need to ကိုလည်း သုံးနိုင်တယ်။

We needn’t hurry.

ငါတို့ မြန်မြန်လုပ်ဖို့ မလိုဘူး။

We don’t need to hurry.

ငါတို့ မြန်မြန်လုပ်ဖို့ မလိုဘူး။

*ဒီနေရာမှာ သတိထားရမှာက needn’t ရဲ့နောက်မှာက infinitive without to (needn’t do) ကို သုံးရတယ်။

Apply them.
