Still, Yet & Already

We use ‘still’ to talk about situations continuing.

(မပြီးသေးတဲ့) လက်ရှိဖြစ်နေဆဲ၊ လုပ်နေဆဲအခြေအနေများကို ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုဖို့ ‘still’ ကို သုံးရတယ်။

She’s still asleep.

သူ(မ) အိပ်ပျော်နေတုန်းပဲ။

Do you still love me?

မင်း ငါ့ကို ချစ်နေတုန်းလား။

I still don’t understand.

ငါ နားမလည်သေးဘူး။

We use ‘yet’ to ask if something expected has happened or to say it hasn’t.

မျှော်လင့်ထားတဲ့အရာတစ်ခုခုဟာ ဖြစ်ပြီးသွားပြီလား၊ လုပ်ပြီးသွားပြီလားဆိုတာကို မေးဖို့ သို့မဟုတ် မပြီးသေးဘူးဆိုတာကို ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုဖို့ ‘yet’ ကို သုံးရပါတယ်။

Has the postman come yet?

စာပို့သမားရောက်ပြီလား။

She hasn’t phoned yet.

သူ(မ) ဖုန်းမဆက်သေးဘူး။

‘Still’ usually goes with the verb; ‘yet’ usually goes at the end of the sentence.

‘still’ က verb နဲ့အတူတွဲသုံးပြီးတော့၊ ‘yet’ ကိုတော့ စာကြောင်းရဲ့အဆုံးမှာ သုံးရပါတယ်။

Look – it’s still raining.

ကြည့်ပါဦး၊ မိုးရွာနေတုန်းပဲ။

Have you had breakfast yet?

မင်း မနက်စာ စားပြီးပြီလား။

We use ‘already’ to say that something has happened earlier than expected, or earlier than somebody thought. ‘Already’ goes with the verb.

မျှော်လင့်ထားတာထက် သို့မဟုတ် တစ်ယောက်ယောက်ထင်ထားတာထက် တစ်ခုခုဟာ ပိုစောပြီးဖြစ်တယ်ဆိုရင် ‘already’ ကို သုံးပြီး ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုနိုင်တယ်။ ‘Already’ ကို verb နားမှာ ထားပြီးသုံးရပါတယ်။

‘When’s your mother coming?’

မင်းရဲ့အမေ ဘယ်အချိန်လာမှာလဲ။

‘She’s already here.’

သူ(မ) ဒီမှာ ရောက်နေပြီ။

She’s only been here a week and she already knows the neighbours.

သူ(မ) ဒီမှာရောက်တာ (၁) ပတ်ပဲ ရှိသေးတယ်၊ အိမ်နီးချင်းအားလုံးကို သိပြီးနေပြီ။

- ‘တစ်ခုခုဟာ မပြီးသေးဘူး၊ ဖြစ်နေတုန်း၊ လုပ်နေတုန်းပဲဆိုရင်’ still ကို သုံးပြီး ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုနိုင်တယ်။

- ‘တစ်ခုခုလုပ်တာပြီးပြီလားလို့ မေးတဲ့အခါ၊ မပြီးသေးဘူးလို့ပြောတဲ့အခါ’ yet ကို သုံးရတယ်။

- ‘တစ်ခုခုဟာ ထင်ထားတာထက် ပိုစောပြီးပြီးနေပြီးသား၊ လုပ်ပြီးနေပြီးသား’ ဆိုတာကို ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုဖို့ already ကို သုံးရတယ်။
