In case

We use ‘in case’ to talk about precautions – things we do to be ready for what might happen.

မိုးမပြို ပြိုခဲ့သည်ရှိသော်၊ တစ်ခုခုဖြစ်လာခဲ့သည်ရှိသော အဆင်သင့်ဖြစ်နေအောင်လုပ်ရမည့်အရာများကို ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုဖို့ ‘in case’ ကို သုံးနိုင်ပါတယ်။

After ‘in case’ we use present tense to talk about the future.

အနာဂတ်ကာလကိုပြောဆိုဖို့အတွက် ‘in case’ နောက်တွင် present tense ကိုပဲသုံးရပါသည်။

I’ve bought a chicken in case your mother stays to lunch.

မင်းရဲ့အမေ နေ့လယ်စာစားချိန်အထိနေခဲ့သည်ရှိသော် စားရအောင် ငါ ကြက်သားဝယ်လာတယ်။

I wrote down her address in case I forgot it.

ငါမေ့မှာစိုးလို့ သူ(မ)ရဲ့လိပ်စာကို ချရေးခဲ့တယ်။

We can use ‘should’......... after ‘in case’ – this gives the idea of ‘by chance’.

ကြိုတင်စီစဉ်စဉ်းစားထားခြင်းမရှိဘဲ လုပ်မိလိုက်တဲ့အရာကို ဖော်ပြပြောဆိုဖို့ in case ရဲ့နောက်မှာ ‘should’ ကို သုံးနိုင်ပါတယ်။

Should is common in the sentences about the past.

should ကိုတော့ အတိတ်အကြောင်းကိုပြောဖို့ အများအားဖြင့် သုံးပါတယ်။

I’ve bought a chicken in case your mother should stay to lunch.

မင်းရဲ့အမေ နေ့လယ်စာစားချိန်အထိနေမယ်ဆိုလည်းနေလို့ရတယ်၊ ကြက်သား ငါ ဝယ်ထားတာနဲ့ ကြုံတယ်။ (နေမယ်သိလို့ ဝယ်တာမဟုတ် တိုက်ဆိုင်တာ၊ အခွင့်ကြုံတာ)

I wrote down her address in case I forgot it.

ငါ သူ(မ)ရဲ့လိပ်စာကို မေ့သွားခဲ့လည်း ရတယ်၊ ငါ (အမှတ်တမဲ့) မှတ်ထားတာရှိတယ်။

in case နဲ့ if ဘယ်လိုကွာလဲ ယှဉ်ကြည့်ရအောင်ပါ။

‘if’ က တစ်ခုခုဖြစ်ရင် နောက်တစ်ခုခုလုပ်မယ်။

I’ll buy a bottle of wine (later) if Ko Min comes.

ကိုမင်းလာရင် ငါ ဝိုင်တစ်ပုလင်း ဝယ်မယ်။ (သူလာရင် ဝယ်မယ်၊ မလာရင် မဝယ်ဘူး)

‘in case’ ကကျတော့ တစ်ခုခုဖြစ်ခဲ့သည်ရှိသော် အဆင်သင့်ဖြစ်နေအောင် တစ်ခုခုကို ကြိုလုပ်တာ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

I’ll buy a bottle of wine (now) in case Ko Min comes.

ကိုမင်းလာခဲ့သည်ရှိသော် သောက်ရအောင် ငါ ဝိုင်တစ်ပုလင်းဝယ်မယ်။ (လာတာ၊ မလာတာအသာထား လာခဲ့ရင် သောက်ရအောင် ကြိုဝယ်ထားတာ)
