လေ့လာမိသောအင်္ဂလိပ်သဒ္ဒါအပိုင်းအစများ (၈)

Some and any

In geneal, we use some (also smoebody/someone/something) in positive sentences and any (also anybody etc.) in negative sentences.

ယေဘူယျအားဖြင့် ကျွန်တော်တို့က some အပါအဝင် somebody, someone, something တို့ကို “အငြင်းမဟုတ်သည့်ဝါကျများ” တွင် သုံးပြီး any, anybody စသည်တို့ကို “အငြင်းဝါကျများ” တွင် အသုံးပြုပါသည်။

Examples

We bought some flowers.

ကျွန်တော်တို့ ပန်းအချို့ဝယ်လာကြတယ်။

We didn’t buy any flowers.

ကျွန်တော်တို့ ဘာပန်းမှမဝယ်ခဲ့ကြဘူး။

He is busy. He has got some work to do.

သူအလုပ်များတယ်၊ သူ့မှာ လုပ်စရာအလုပ်တချို့ရှိတယ်။

He is lazy. He never does any work.

သူက အပျင်းကြီးတယ်၊ ဘာအလုပ်မှမလုပ်တာ။

There is somebody at the door.

တံခါးပေါက်မှာ တစ်ယောက်ယောက်ရှိတယ်။

There is not anybody at the door.

တံခါးပေါက်မှာ ဘယ်သူမှ မရှိဘူး။

“အငြင်းအဓိပ္ပါယ်ရတဲ့စာကြောင်းတွေမှာ” any ကို သုံးရပါတယ်။

She went out without any money.

ဘာပိုက်ဆံမှမပါဘဲ သူ(မ) အပြင်ထွက်သွားတယ်။

He refused to eat anything.

သူက ဘာမှမစားဖို့ ငြင်းတယ်။

Hardly anybody passed the examination.

ဘယ်သူမှ စာမေးပွဲမအောင်ကြဘူး။

“မေးခွန်းအများစု” မှာတော့ any ကို သုံးရတယ်။ ‘တစ်ခုခု သို့မဟုတ် တစ်ယောက်ယောက်က ရှိနေလား၊ မရှိဘူးလားဆိုတာကို မသိရင်’ any ကို သုံးပါတယ်။

‘Have you got any luggage?’

မင်းမှာ အထုပ်အပိုးတွေ ပါလား။

‘No, I haven’t.’

ဟင့်အင်း၊ မပါဘူး။

‘တစ်ခုခုရှိနေတာ၊ သို့မဟုတ် တစ်ယောက်ယောက်ရှိနေတာကို သိရင်၊ ရှိနေတယ်လို့ ကိုယ်ကထင်နေရင်’ မေးခွန်းမှာ some ကို သုံးလို့ရတယ်။

Are you waiting for somebody?

မင်း တစ်ယောက်ယောက်ကို စောင့်နေတာလား။ (ကိုယ်က သူတစ်ယောက်ယောက်ကို စောင့်နေတယ်ထင်လို့ မေးလိုက်တာ)

some ကို ‘တစ်ခုခုကိုတောင်းဆိုတာ၊ တစ်ခုခုကိုကမ်းလှမ်းတာ’ ကိုဖော်ပြတဲ့ မေးခွန်းပုံစံတွေမှာလည်း သုံးတယ်။

Would you like something to eat?

မင်း တစ်ခုခုစားမလား။

Can I have some sugar, please?

ကျေးဇူးပြု၍ သကြားရနိုင်လားခင်ဗျာ။

‘if’ ရဲ့နောက်မှာဆိုရင်တော့ any ကို သုံးရပါတယ်။

If there are any letters for me, can you send me them on to this address?

ကျွန်တော့်ဆီကိုရေးတဲ့စာများရှိရင် ဒီလိပ်စာအတိုင်း ကျွန်တော့်ဆီကို ပို့ပေးနိုင်မလား။

If anyone has any questions, I’m pleased to answer them.

တစ်ယောက်ယောက်များ မေးခွန်းမေးစရာရှိရင် ကျွန်တော်ဖြေဖို့ ကြိုဆိုပါတယ်နော်။

မင်း တစ်ခုခုလိုအပ်တာရှိရင် ငါ့ကို ပြောနော်။

We use ‘any’ with the meaninng ‘it doesn’t matter which’.

‘ဘာပဲဖြစ်ဖြစ်၊ ဘယ်တစ်ခုပဲဖြစ်ဖြစ်’ ဆိုတဲ့အဓိပ္ပါယ်နဲ့လည်း ‘any’ ကို သုံးပါတယ်။

I like a bridge. Just any kind of bridge at all.

ကျွန်တော် တံတားကို ချစ်မြတ်နိုးတယ်၊ တန်ဖိုးထားတယ်။ ဘယ်လိုတံတားမျိုးဖြစ်ဖြစ်ပါ။ (Bridges ကဗျာမှ)

You can take any bus.

ဘယ်ခရီးသည်တင်ကားဖြစ်ဖြစ် မင်း စီးသွားလို့ရတယ်။

They all go to the centre.

သူတို့အားလုံးက မြို့လယ်အထိ သွားကြတာ။

Come and see me anytime you want.

မင်း တွေ့ချင်တဲ့ ဘယ်အချိန်မဆို ငါ့ကို လာတွေ့ပါ။ (အချိန်မရွေးလာတွေ့နိုင်တယ်)

‘something’ နဲ့ ‘anything’ ကို ယှဉ်ကြည့်ရအောင်ပါ။

A: I’m hungry. I want something to eat.

ငါ ဗိုက်ဆာနေတာ၊ စားစရာတစ်ခုခု ရချင်တယ်။

B: What would you like?

ဘာစားချင်လဲ။

A: I don’t mind. Anything.

ကိစ္စမရှိဘူး၊ ဘာပဲဖြစ်ဖြစ် ရပါတယ်။
